Wandelen_01

Under the title of LandGOEDwandelen (GOOD Country Park Walks), one overnight walk and five short walks have been plotted in the Landgoederenzone Zuid-Holland (South Holland Country Estate Zone), on the initiative of the province of South Holland and the municipalities of Leidschendam-Voorburg, Rijswijk, Voorschoten, and Wassenaar. In close cooperation with the aforementioned municipalities, the project was developed by Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland (South Holland Cultural Heritage House) within the context of the provinciale Erfgoedlijnenbeleid (provincial heritage lines policy), and funded by parties including the province of South Holland, the municipalities mentioned above, and the South Holland Prince Bernhard Culture Fund

South Holland heritage lines

The 2017-2020 Cultural Heritage and Basic Cultural Facilities Policy Vision Document (as well as the preceding 2013-2016 Policy Vision Document) centres on seven heritage lines. Heritage lines are geographic lines connecting various points on the map to create a coherent whole in harmony with a common historical narrative. One of the heritage lines is the South Holland Country Estate Zone, a landscape structure between Westland and Hillegom that runs parallel to the seashore and where the urban elite would set up country residences in the past. In partnership with municipalities, private enterprise, interest groups, the corporate sector, et cetera, the province of South Holland invests in ensuring that the heritage that is associated with the historical narrative and the geographic structure of the heritage line are maintained intact, used to full advantage, and experienced. Subsidies for the restoration of nationally listed sites are used for this purpose, and numerous activities and projects are organized that are co-funded by the province of South Holland.

LandGOEDwandelen (GOOD Country Park Walks)

The LandGOEDwandelen project is one of these projects. Its purpose is to introduce a wide audience to the joys of the country estates in the southern part of the South Holland Country Estate Zone. Planning walking routes through the area helps to raise understanding for the spatial context and how the zone is connected to the country houses, offering visitors an opportunity to experience this connection.

Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland (South Holland Cultural Heritage House)

Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland is committed to the maintenance and preservation of the cultural heritage in South Holland, to improving its use, and to offering visitors the opportunity of experiencing its value and importance. We are not alone in pursuing this goal. All across the province, people are joining us in our efforts to preserve, protect, and promote public access to our heritage. As an anchor for the field of South Holland heritage resources, we support, connect, and inspire municipalities, historical associations, archives, museums, schools, monument managers, entrepreneurs, and volunteers. We all stand together, united, to contribute to the preservation of the rich heritage of South Holland.
